You direct the metal tabs inward (toward the radio). Once you lighlty push on these tabs. You should be able to gently slide out that side of the radio a bit. If you've done it correctlt the radio should start to slide out with no problems. Then do the other side to remove the radio completeley. At least that is how it is on the 98 A4.
