Default Help with Xtant subs and Coustic amp please!!

okay, i messed up my friend's system. How can i wire two 4 ohm (maybe 8 ohm) subs through one channel besides simply connecting the two negs and two positives to eachother...? Im thinking they originally connected the speakers in parallel inside the box (but im not sure exactly how this works!)

Anyone with words of wisdom regarding parallel wiring please chime in...

Default

It depends on what ohms the subs are and the amp is, and whether or not the subs are DVC

Default I'm not asking if you think it will work...

you can run the speakers in parallel whether they are 4 or 8 ohm speakers. Also, an amp doesnt push a particular ohm until you connect a speaker(s) to it.

Anyhew,
isnt it something like this for a 2 speaker setup:

Connect right speaker pos to left speaker neg. Connect right speaker neg to amp neg and left speaker pos to amp pos....?

This is a mono sub amp btw; easily handles 2 ohms

Default Ok so if the amp is 2 ohm stable than ideally you want to get out 2 ohms. So...

your wiring setup would be:
~connect both subwoofer positives together
~connect both subwoofer negatives together
~then connect the single lead of each polarity to the corresponding amp terminal.

if they are 4 ohm subs then you'll be running at 2 ohms and if they are 8 ohm subs you'll be running at 4 ohms. either way the amp should be able to handle it.

the "speaker setup" you have above is wired in series not parallel. in a series setup you'd be running at either 8 ohms or 16 ohms which would be ridiculously ineffecient.

"Also, an amp doesnt push a particular ohm until you connect a speaker(s) to it." Take a look at my sig, do you think i could have designed this without knowing my $hit first? I was refering to the ohm stability of the amp ;p

Default Sorry and thank you...

I was short tempered when i posted last. i couldnt remember the diff b/w series and parallel, and you cleared that up...thank you

One question though: what do i do with the pos and neg im not connecting to the amp? wire them together, or just leave them disconnected?

P.S. this is not something im physically able to experiment with or i would be able to answer these things myself, thanks again
