Default How to connect iPod to Symphony?

I read an earlier thread that said you had to run a cable from the trunk in order to have an iPod use the CD changer slot.

I do not have the CD changer in my A6.

It sure would be nice to be able to run an adapter cable off the head unit. Is that really impossible? If so, exactly which adapter do you need? There was a link to CarToys but I could not find the Audi connector on the website.

Default Don't Try this instead...

I have the IPOD. I love it but be VERY CAREFUL. It is difficult to use it and drive at the same time. It requires more work than a radio. Once you use it, you'll see what I mean. It is easy to stop and put on a whole cd and switch like that, forget looking for songs. Whew! I have come out to the best way is a sony cassette adapter and I keep the Ipod right in the center console where the parking brake is. Works great! You need to put the tape in and switch it to side B to work. I also have a firewire adapter that I plug in via my rear cigarette lighter. It works tremendously. Don't bother hard wiring it, it is just too easy to use the other way, enjoy and be careful.

Default autotoys.com carries this. Go to the "OEM COMPATIBLE AUX INTERFACES" section

this is a specific adapter for Audi 'Symphony' H/U's.
since you have to plug it in at the back of the H/U, you can run the jacks out somewhere easy to get at.
buy an adapter cable at Rat-Shack, RCA males to 1/8" mini plug, and you are home free.<ul><li><a href="http://autotoys.com/New_Tech/DIY_2000/Audi_Symphony_Aux_MP3_Adapter/Audi_Symphony_Aux_MP3_Adapter.html">Details</a></li></ul>

Cassette and FM adapters are poor quality alternatives to hardwiring, IMHO.

Jeff:

Is the connector different if you DON'T have the CD changer in the trunk?

Do you have a phone number for Autotoys.com?
