I can't see what applying damping material to the hood would do for you.

Default Can't help being right all the time. Quote from Dynamat web site:

"Dynamat Xtreme is also effective for noise reduction when installed on roofs, quarter panels and under the hood. Self-adhesive."

But I'm sure you're better informed than the actual manufacturers of the stuff

http://www.dynamat.com/products_automotive_dynamat_xtreme.html</a

Default Just a guess...but 100SQ feet should cover it....

...I bought the Dynamat Extreme Pak (36sq feet) to do my doors and trunk. So far, the doors are done and the sound response from the stock speakers is AMAZING -- and the reduced road noise. Not to mention the nice "thud" that each door makes when I close them.

Lots of related posts on this forum. Good luck!!

Default Is that it?

It has no effect on sound as far as audio goes and it probably has vrey little effect on engine noise getting into the cabin but it probably does increase the amount of heat that is built up under the hood.

If the only benefit is a nice sounding hood, it not even a question if it s worth it.

£20 and 10 minutes work, didn't really have to go to a committee to get it approved

1, Dynamat recommends Extremeliner for underhood, and 2, I meant AUDI.

Default "Re: Dynamat recommends Extremeliner for underhood", not according to their web site

Maybe it's different in the US but in the UK our cars use things called radiators to maintain the correct engine temp. We don't generally rely on using the hood as a heatsink.

Default 2. WTF would Audi know about it, other ridiculous things Audi recommend:

1. Inspection of water pump, not replacement, when changing the cambelt - so they can fleece you twice when the pump fails (if you have an engine left)
2. Go to an Audi dealer to change a headlight bulb
3. Go to Audi dealer to change a taillight bulb
4. Cambelt replacement on petrol models at 115k miles
5. There's no inherrent design fault with early Concert HU's re: volume problem.
6. Only use approved Audi screenwash.
The list is endless....
