Default Hum on cassette deck

I purchased 2 different cassette adapters to try to get my mp3 player to work through my Bose Symphony stereo. I get very poor quality and a major hum. Don't know if the problem is the adapter on my cassette deck or my mp3 player.

I'm gonna take a stab at it being the adapter/cassette deck combo. I'm working on the same thing right now with my XM radio. They have better connectors that plug into the CD changer connection if you don't have a changer. Blitzsafe seems to be what people are using.

I fixed most of my problems today when I discovered the radio had an output level control (was kinda shocked since it can't actually power speakers or anything). It was too high overdriving the amp creating distortion. So see if you can turn down the output of the mp3 player (if you are using the headphone jack as an output, turn the volume down, or use that jack and set the volume low) and see if that helps.
