Default I have a rare opportunity to buy some A/D/S 325is components(in Box), don't know how they compare

to newer offerings by other companies(Morel, Dynaudio, Focal, DLS ect.)
I fell in love with them back 10 years ago (when I had my M3 sedan) but have not been able to compare them recently partly due to how scarse they've become. So if anyone knows these speakers well enough to caompare them to newer stuff, I'd appreciate it (avincar).

They only want $300 for them, I'm at a toss up. Should I spend a little more for something new or will I not gain that much by going that way & stay with these and the extra cash.

Application : Front Stage In Factory Locations (C4 S6)

Thanks

Default $300 for a set of 12 year old speakers? I would think you could get them cheaper.

I think you can even get the newer 335is for less than that because it discontinued. I've seen it as low as $150 on Sounddomain. I can't compare the two directly but I have heard the 335is and they have similar sound characteristics to the old 325is. Decent bass, tweeter is smooth and not bright, mids are excellent.

Default 12 years old, But New in Box. That's the only justification here. I guess the 325's were their best.

That's why I'm looking for opinions, and I too agree with what you said about the 335's. I remember them to be quite smooth as well as articulate. But can I find these same characteristics in new models for less money or are these traits still only found in $500 & up components, thus making this a good deal.

Let me check soundomain..
thanks..

Default Even if they were never used I wouldn't buy a set of speakers that were sitting for 12 years.

Materials start to break down after that long. Glue and foam (I don't remember if those had foam surrounds or rubber) will be your biggest worries because if the glue that hold the cone and dust cap and surround together breaksdown, it would probably shake loose the first time you try to play it at moderate levels. If the speakers were sitting in a hot warehouse all this time, I can almost guarantee you'll have some issues.

There are some decent component sets out there that sound good and are relatively inexpensive. Your best bet is to go out and demo whatever you're looking at because sound is so subjective. What sounds good to someone doesn't always sound good to everyone else.

Default MB Quart and ADS are at total opposite ends of the specturm in terms of sound characteristics.

MBs tend to be a bit bright and the bass is usually pretty weak. It all depends on what sound you're looking for.

You're right. I might just get some Morel Elate 5 for $400 used.

Default I seriously doubt that you can get an Elate 5 in there without some serious metal cutting...

...on at least the passenger door.

I can get you a deal on a set of used Dynaudio MW220 tweeters and crossovers and NIB mids. Same deal, lots of cutting in a B5...

Really? Those are pretty shallow aren't they? I can't imagine the frame or magnet being that wide.
