Default I m about to start a huge project

I had 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch DVCs in a huge ghetto box, the cops started harassing me so I took it out for about 2 weeks now. The car feels light and handles great ($1,200 worth of sus. ****). Anyway, the stock 6 1/2 inch speakers SUCK!
Even the "top of the line BOSE system" SUCKS! Bose are horrible speakers. compare a bose speaker at a home audio store with a JBL,yes a JBL, you will never buy another bose product again, plus JBLs are a hell of a lot cheaper. i want to cut two 8in holes and fit 2 earthquakes, or kicker Solo berics, And build a small box Underneath them, so they would hit toward the back windsheild. Has anybody done anything like this, if so how long did it take u? And WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH THE QUALITY OF AUDI TRUNKS? When I pounded before the trunk would move about 1 1/2 inches in and out! SOUNDS LIKE CRAP! and its not easy to dyno mat the truck either, plus dyno mat weighes tons. ANY HELP from COOL PEOPLE that like the sound of pure and clean music?

PS: is everybody in the Forum 40 years old plus???

I know this is an Audi website but you really didn't specify which car you had for people to give you opinions/ideas. I will say that I had 2 8" JL audio drivers firing up through the rear deck with a custom enclosure and it sounded very good to me. I ended up with a 10" kappa perfect fiberglassed in the passenger floorboard though. It really depends on your listening tastes and whether you want your trunk to move 1.5 inches in and out????????????? IMO pounding is not my idea of clear music. My A4 is completely covered in cascade audio deadening materials of which I used to reduce resonance. I don't feel the amount of bass you like would matter how plastered your car was with dynamat you would still rattle. If you want that type of bass, turn up the volume, grin and just drive. I'll be hearing you soon. Oh yeah, I'm only 23.

Default I had a car with that much boom that didnt rattle.....

of course we added 300 lbs of dynamat and roof insulation between the plastic interior panels and the dynamated sheet metal, and i had complete control of that bass... i agree his use of the word "pounding" doesnt inspire alot of "clean clear" sounds in my mind. U can build a box like that or buy the JL stealthbox...if u want "boom" though 2 8"s arent gonna do it. Thats just fact.

Default questions and answers.....

What do you mean by the trunk moving 1-1/2"???
What type of music do you listen to?
How much trunk space are you willing to give up?
Do you want Ghetto Bass or a tight sounding thump?

If you want to "pound", then 8" subs won't cut it. You need at least 10" for a good trade-off between tight bass and a good thump. If you want ghetto bass, then ya need to to with 12" or 15"... but then you're listening to mud.

Instead of mounting the speakers to the rear deck, it might be a better idea to just build a box in the trunk and port it through holes in the rear deck. You can either cut new holes or remove the speakers back there and port thru the stock holes. (this depends on whether or not you want rear-fill)

If you think the trunk is hard to dynamat because of the contours, try using spray or past material. Select Products sells a paste that you just paint on. (go to www.selectproducts.com) Also, Cascade makes a spray material (which I bought) to use on the inside of the door panels.

I agree with you on Bose... their stuff is GARBAGE...ESPECIALLY for the price you pay. The only thing good about them is that they are very VERY small..... (if that matters to you). Otherwise, yes, you can do MUCH better for less money.

you're probably right... I've only heard bad examples of 12's and 15's.

Default Solobarics are for one thing only.... BOOM.... (more)

depending on your budget, i would look at the Inf, Boston, JLw4 or 6 (the W0's are bass subs), Image Dynamic IDQ12's.... if u have MORE, velodyne, focal, Eclipse Aluminums....
its one of those things that your ear has to hear. Having an idea of what kind of music you listen to and wether you want SQ or Boom from it would help any good salesman.
A good salesman will give u 2 or 3 options and ask your opinion a bad salesman will tell you "get brand X, the rest are just blah"

Hope that ramble made sense.

Default JL Audio

I have a JL 10W3D2 in my trunk (99.5 1.8TQMS) getting about 300W and it sounds real nice. For my money, you can't beat JL. Of course, my initials are JL so I guess I'm a little biased

A couple of brands no one mentioned yet for great bass:

Diamond Audio Hex series
Illusion Audio Carbon series - These would be great for deck mounting due to tiny mounting depth
MTX - LOUD!!!
PPI PRO series flat piston - they just look so damn cool.

Quick question, has anyone ever seen or heard a Phoenix Gold Cyclone 12?<p>It's Mr. Moon who plays in tune...
