Default I stuck my ear up to my "tweeters" on my factory Bose system but nothing....more

This is the cheesy add-on Bose subwoofer and Pioneer jury-rigged CD changer I'm planning on dumping soon. Is there a reason there's a tweeter location but no tweeter there? I assume there will be enough space to put in a 1" component there from past posts but I'm just trying to find out why this "upgraded" stereo has no tweeter...?
Thanks to anyone who replies!!

Default Strange, you get tweeters (albeit non Bose ones), on a Bose A3/S3

Must sound really woolly, are you sure they're missing, might just be knackered. 1" component tweeters just slot right in.

Default I'm getting ready to do the big switcheroo, MacSub. We'll see when I pull off...

the door panels what's behind there. I'll definitely put in 2 way components and I'm leaning towards 4" components to prevent the hassle of making rings and having fitment clearance problems arise. I will try to design some sort of sub for the rear wheelwell. How many cubic feet needed for a 8" or 10" speaker in an enclosure?

Default Depend on the sub, but JL Audio 8" you can get away with 10ltrs

So that's 16"x9"x8" (406mm x 229mm x 203mm) sealed enclosure, obviously more for ported. If you go down the JL route, get the more expensive dual voice coil version as it can handle a lot more power and gives you the option of running it in 2 ch mode at 2 ohms. I use their 6.5" sub in a custom wheelarch enclosure for the A3/S3, and that's a very small 18mm MDF enclosure, probably about 3litres, and it really works well. I've made over twenty of these for various A3 owners and everyones blown away by them. You do need about 300wrms to drive them well.

Default I'll have to lay out a pattern that will fit inside the removeable...

wheelarch panels in the A6 Avant. My CD player is there now but maybe I'd move it over to the other side where the present Bose sub resides, this would open up more space. What I really want is just nice tight bass to fill out the spectrum, not a punk kid jukebox so hopefully I could do an 8" sub with between 2-300 watts in addition to my 160 watt a/d/s amp for my components. Sound reasonable? I think I did see your sub in a past post, remind me of where I can see it again, it will give me some good food for thought. I like the idea of the MDF, an easy material to work with (what is used inside for deadening?)

Thanks for your continued good advice!

Default I just used fibre fill speaker wadding but you could use loft insulation

Here's a pic of the A3 stup, but you should have more room in an A6. An 8" with a good powerful amp will sound sweet. I tried shoehorning an 8" JL into the A3 box but although it sounded slightly better it was really struggling with the tiny enclosure.

Default If I used the same shape box with more volume, could I face the speaker inwards instead of back? ---

I'd like to have the existing panel work as a speaker grill so really I just need to figure out the largest enclosure I can make that would work with an 8" sub. Yours is nice, you did it from scratch I presume?

Default Looks good to me, their small enclosure = 5.6 litres (0.2'cu) so pretty small

should be well within the space available in an A6. Calculating it is not that easy if it is going to sit over the wheelarch, with my A3 design I just made it as big as possible in the confines of the cubbyhole and it worked really well, more by luck than design.

Default Yes, it's loosely based on the OEM unit that you get with the A3

which is plastic and houses a feeble paper cone unit with an amp the size of a matchbox.

You should be able to mount the sub facing inwards no problem, there just isn't enough depth on the A3.
