Default Install almost finished, one question...

I'm finally wrapping up the install in my 2001 S4. I'm using the stock head unit with the Blau adapter supplying RCA's back to an AudioControl EQL and then on to a PPI Ax400 (50x4 or 200x2 with built in crossover) which is running highpass to MB Quart QM 215.61Q 5.25" components in the front doors and MB Quart QWC 160 6.5" midbass drivers in the rear deck. I had originally wanted to put the 6.5's in the rear doors but running the wire was proving to be a royal PITA so I gave up and took to easy route of placing them in the rear deck instead. The low pass of the Ax400 is feeding a PPI A600 (150x2 or 600x1) bridged mono powering a PPI Pro 12" sub in a ported enclosure.

Now on to my question. I originally had the factory Bose system, and I know that the headunit can be coded to operate in either Bose or standard mode, so do I need to have the radio recoded by the VAG-COM software in standard mode to get rid of any of the Bose EQ settings? What have others done when keeping the Bose system's stock headunit?

Default Can't answer your Bose question but.......

Interesting setup. I was thinking of doing the 5.25" Q's in the front with the 6.5" midbasses in the rear deck. How does it sound? Does the large drivers in the rear tend to pull the image towards the back? How are your crossovers set?
Could you post pics when your done?

Sorry I can't help you with your Bose question, my car doesn't have the Bose system.

Default Check out the Tech section...

There's an article on changing your EQ settings using the head unit itself.

Default Re: Check out the Tech section...

I'm aware of the headunit's built in 'hidden' EQ, but doesn't it come stock at the flat 55555555 setting regardless of Bose or standard modes? It was my understanding that on top of this EQ there were some other Bose specific modifications. Some people who have changed their radio's VAG code have noticed a definate change in tone (i.e. the Bose VAG code does more than simply enable the "BOSE" display on the headunit when it powers up). I can only assume that the standard mode would be more flat and what I should be using with an aftermarket add-on system, but I was hoping someone here with a similar setup can share their experience.
