I'm looking into installing one of the aftermarket iPod adapters but I don't want the thing in sight (want to keep it in the glovebox) and it seems both the Dension Ice-link plus and the OEM iPod Adapters don't display the ID3 tags on the radio head unit.

Is this true? Are there any iPod adapters that do display the track info? Otherwise, with the iPod in the glovebox it's like I'm flying blind.

No CDC-emulating iPod adapter (and at the moment that's ALL of them) can display any text on the Concerts, Symphonys, or RNS-E NavPluses. In CDC Mode the HU won't accept text signals on the bus.

SAT - capable radios will allow text signals in SAT mode - but no one is yet using this method to enable an iPod adapter to display text (and it disables any SAT tuner present as well).

DICE thought about using SAT when developing new Audi units - but did Honda first. Probably a good commercial move, but a drag for us.

Your best bet is a new HU (Alpine 9885 or iDA-001!) or a Drive and Play and a Blitz or Soundgate AUX adapter. I don't like either much myself, so I have a DICE and use the iPod display and controls for playlist browsing.

is there a way to customize the text on the head unit?
