Default Which JL 12W3 model do I need?

I've seen the D2, D4, and D6. I plan on running just a single 12" with 200W rms to it. Is the D4 the correct model?

Thanks.

Default The number after the D means 2 ohm, 4 ohm...etc

a D2 can be wired for 1 or 4 ohms
a D4 can be wired for 2 or 8 ohms

Default So what this means to DigitalA4 is that . . .

your choice depends on your amp.

If your amp is 1-Ohm stable (not too common), then you can go with the D2 and get a lot of power out of that amp! Make sure you give it a lot of air and thick power wire.

Most amps these days are 2-Ohm stable, so the D4 might work for ya.

etc., etc., etc.

Default depends on what ya wanna do...

If u are doing a single sub...id prob do a D2 that is the 2 ohm version. Also take into consideration which amp u are getting. Some give the max power at 4 ohms and some at 2 ohms.

Default Thanks fellas. I plan on running it from my PPI PC450 amp...

which I believe is 2 ohm stable.

I should've guessed that with the DVC design...duh. Thanks for the confirmation.

I guess it depends if I want the amp to run with a 2 or 4 ohm load. What do you recommend I run the amp at? It's mounted right behind the driver side rear seat. I'm also running an 8 gauge power wire to it. I should've requested 4 gauge when I had the install done.

Default A lot of amps increase power output if you show them a 2-Ohm load, so . . .

that's what I'd consider doing.

I tried a google search on your amp, and everywhere I looked said it was 4 x 50w at 4 Ohms. Do you have the owner's manual?

Default Thanks John hahaha...I was doing the same thing...

searching the internet to verify if it's 2ohm stable. I do have the manual (in the car and too lazy to look right now) but I know it is 50x4. I'm running it in 3 channel mode with the rear channels bridged to give me 200W rms. I've been running a 10W0 (4ohm load) for a few years now but I need more bass.

I was just concerned about driving the amp too hard but I've read countless times how well PPI amps handle.

It's not. PPI amps are 2 ohm stable in stereo, 4 ohm stable mono.

Thanks! Looks like I'll be getting the D2 and wiring in series then.
