JL 500/1 Amp. Sub Woofer contest: JL 12w3 v2 versus JL 8w7. Comments?

28.5 cubic inches of air pushed by the 8w7 and 37.7345 cubic inches pushed by the 12w3. So the 12w3 pushes more air. Also, sensitivity (at 1w per meter outside of an enclosure) has little baring at 250 watts in a box. Beyond that, the longer the throw, the longer it takes to accomplish a stroke, so the 12 might even be quicker and cleaner sounding.

xmax x sd = thatll be the best way to figure output, good call audi -o - phile. I agree with his post. also as far as sound/spl its all gonna sound so different with going from an 8 to a 12. If your looking for lows, bigger will generally give you lower freq......but enclosures and so on will all factor into that. its really not comparing 1x1.....good luck....

I'm not sure why he's comparing a 8" woofer to a 12" woofer, though. The 12" will obviously have more surface area to move more air.
