Well, the install is finished and working. The results are astounding, surpassing all my expectations. This top-of-the-line JL 8" little monster is powered by a JL audio 250/1 amp. I spliced directly into the stock rear speaker lines coming off the Bose amp.
It is simply amazing how the enitre sound has been transformed. It is rich and full. I now have my treble turned up 2 notches and my bass control set down one notch. The input sensitivity on the amp is set to about 40%.
The decision to go with this particular 8" sub was to get plenty of punch and high sound quality but also to have a driver size that would have a frequency range that mated seamlessly with the stock system. (Thanks to avincar for this piece of advice!!)A larger sub would produce deeper bass, but the upper/mid bass transfer point may have been compromised.
That argument not withstanding, the 8W7 hits HARD. You can't even imagine that this is an 8" sub.
For anyone disappointed with the stock Bose system but not wanting to gut the entire system, this is a great way to go. With the Bose drivers free to focus on mids/highs, the system completely rocks!!!! Very satisfied!!!

Used the volume specs from the manual for the sub, then did the math to construct a box with the proper angle to fit properly against the back seat, and allow the amp to fit where it is. Rear firing mated with an MTX 380W amp. I just recently messed with the settings, turned down the gain and bass level and it sounds much better. Now that it's summer and the windows are down, the bass got boomy. Turned the amp down and found the perfect setting on the hidden EQ on the stock radio....de-bosed OEM sounds like audio nirvana now!
