did you connect the RCA screen to the common (screen) going to the Bose amp.
I have connected many Alpine amps to the stock Bose system (splicing into the connector on the Bose amp, not the HU) and had no problems at all.
Is the whining engine whine or something else?

you are amplifying an already amplified signal, so are bound to get distortion and interference.
All of these devices are designed to present a load of 4 ohms to the speaker outputs you are tapping into, whereas the Bose system works on 2 ohms, so you will be compromising the Bose amp.
You can hook low level RCA's from your amp straight to the pre-outs going to the Bose amp. This provides a clean untainted signal.

They are a lazy, last resort, i.e. if you can't be arsed to do the job properly, or your head unit is so antequated it doesn't have pre-outs to hook into.
Basically you are taking a signal that has aleady been amped by a low quality amp with all the noise and distortion that it has aded, then taking it back down to a low level, only to be amped again by a quality amp. At best the sound quality will be compromised (so not perfect), at worst you get hideous hiss/distortion and possible engine interference.
If it works perfectly, what's the purpose of this post again, remind me?
