Key in ignition is detected by Chorus- can this be amended for a kenwood?

Hi all,
Have A4 Avant (02 plate) and have just upgraded the Chorus cassette unit to a Kenwood stereo. Alll works fine, but I notice that the old stereo would light up and operate when the key was placed in the ignition barrel. I could use this to activate the new stereo.
I have checked around with a circuit tester - but no cable turns live behind the stereo when the key is in the ignition. Anyone found a way to achieve this?
Thanks,
Adam.

I used a switched live from behind the ignition key switch (stays live until the key is removed) there is also one in the fuse box (only live with the ignition on)
