Default Making sense of the SD Card file structures

I have a 2013 A4 non-NAV stereo system. I am able to play music just fine from an SD card, but I only have seven albums on it, in seven folders on the root of the card.

I'm trying to find a concrete answer here, but is there a limit to how many folders I can have on the root? For example, could I have 50 or so albums, one album per directory, on the root of the card? Or, do is there some smaller limit, where I need to just list my songs? I've done quite a bit of searching, and I can't seem to find a "best practices" example on how to store music on my card. I'm not using any app to manage the music, just copying and pasting. I don't plan on using playlists, either, as of now.
