Default Mike (daPimp), here some more answers

Mark, thanx once again for your answers. I'll reread the manual later tonight, but I thought it said to run 4ga to
each amp. If I do this would I run two power wires straight from the battery or run one 4ga and split it w/ a
distributor. Would I need 2 fuses? Also I bought a 1.0 farad cap to help my battery out.

*****
Think of electrical current the same as water current. If you need two separate 4GA at the end, you can start with 1 4GA and expect to create enough current in the 2 4GA after a split. Basically, the cross sectional area should stay ~constant. Whether you are making from 1, 2 , or however many wires. The current will be limited to the weakest point. So either 2 4GA all the way, or a single 2GA (or 1/0 GA?) split into 2 4GA. Once again, check your amp/RF for requirements. Separate fuses offer more protection. And proper fusing is important. You need just enough current capacity so they don't blow. In the past I have started with whatever the amp has built-in, and then after playing with the system for ~1 week, I'd go 10 less on the fuse and repeat until the fuse blew and then step back up again. You want to be able to handle the daily pounding and extreme showing off / competeing, but not much more. The Cap should be placed close to the amp that supplies the power to the subs.
*****

I checked on the head unit:
RCA Preouts (x2 pair) (Front + Subwoofer or Front + Non-Fading) (2V)
Two-Way Crossover (HPF & LPF)
Front/Rear HPF (50/80/125Hz, -12dB/Oct.)
Sub-Out LPF (50/80/125Hz, -18dB/Oct.)
Sub-Out Level (-12dB to +12dB) and Phase Control
-I gave the website if you need more info.

I guess the "x2 pair" means that there are four, meaning that I need a Y connector correct? So I put a Y connector in
one of the RCA rear preouts and then I have 3 RCA's, two for the rear and one for subs? Or do the subs have their own
RCA preouts? While we are on the head unit subject, I noticed you posted about the correct antenna for an aftermarket
stereo. Will I need this?

*****
You really don't have the ideal outputs for your system. But with this unit, you will want the "Front + Non-Fading" option. Set the Front to HPF @ either 80 or 125Hz, depending on how they sound. YOu will have to run the other channel full range and use the built-in Xover on the amps (assuming there is one?). Take both of these Non-Fading outputs and but Y connectors on BOTH of them. You want to have bass from both channels, not just one. Most amps will allow you to input two RCAs and then set the amp to Mono an it will combine the two inputs internally. Older amps required that you did this externally, and if so you will need another Y (2 female to one male) to combine the pair of sub RCAs.
Yes, you need this antenna adapter.
*****

As for the 5 1/4" mids, I checked RF and Crutchfield, and they do not give the size of the magnet. I guess I'll have
to wait until I get them, and then measure it. Are you worried about the depth or diameter of the magnets? And I am
taking it that I would still need adapters for the rear 6.5"s.

*****
It's the combination of depth and diameter. My speakers were about the same depth as the MB Quarts, but my magnets had greater diameter and this caused a problem. The neodium magnets on the Quarts are very narrow and thus not a problem.
The adapters make life easy on the rear deck, yet you could make them if required. It would take some work to get them the right size, but all-in-all not that bad.
*****

As for the actual install, where did you run the power wires? The manual goes on for pages about how you cannot run
them by any high voltage wires or else you will pick up engine noise etc. Also did you run the speaker wires down the
sides or meet them at the middle console and run them straigt under the back seat? Do you remember how many feet of
wire you used? I am leaving the crossovers in the trunk to do something fancy later on.

*****
I ran the power wire down the left side and the RCAs down the center. I still have a little engine noise that I plan to get rid of. Speakers down both sides. I used about 20' for the front doors, 15 for the rear and 5 (or as needed) for the rear deck & subs. Doing it again, I may start with a bit more so I could be even neater with my wiring at the amp/Xovers.
*****

And this might sound really stupid but on my 800a2 amp, I have two outputs for each speaker, a left and a right. Since
I am running them in parallel, do I just connect the wires either the left or the right, or is there something special
I have to do? Once again I'll check the manual tonight but it's pretty hard to understand it all, and it doesnt help
that my brother spilled Coke all over it.

*****
Different for each amp, but it's normally the + of one channel and the - of the other (tends to be the outer two connections when connected) THere is normally a diagram on the amp that will show you. and it's DEFINATELY in the manual.
*****

Once again, thank you. I hate to answer your questions with questions. I'll end up figuring out a bunch on my own but
while I have the time before I like to have an idea of what I am doing. And plus the night I go to first install I
will already know the answers and you wont get 50 emails asking about stupid questions. =) When you explain all of
this it makes it a lot easier to understand. Thanx.

*****
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no problem. How 'bout you fly me down to FL and I'll sit there downing some cold ones while you do the install and ask me questions?

Default Mike, Seriously consider the 8200R if you don't have the head yet...

It gives you much better preamplification for your application. 3 sets (F, R & Subs), so you can use all of the internal Xover features, and they are 4.8V signaling for better Signal to noise ratios.

Hi-Volt RCA Preouts (x3 pair) (Front/Rear + Subwoofer) (Non-clipping 4.8V
max)
Two-Way Crossover (HPF & LPF)
Front/Rear HPF (50/80/125Hz, -12dB/Oct.)
Sub-Out LPF (50/80/125Hz, -18dB/Oct.)
Sub-Out Level (-12dB to +12dB) and Phase Control
Mark P

Default Only problem is that it doesn't fit....

Well according to Crutchfield it doesn't. I got the 7200 because it was the best Pioneer that fit in my dash. I'm not quite like you where I rip apart the whole dash and make this cool custom thing for it =)

The deal with the P7200 I bought is that I got it from a friend, he used it for about 3 weeks, so I got a good deal and it fit in my dash. I can always go on eBay and sell it, cuz hes not gonna buy it back.

If you think it would be easier to sell it and buy a 8200, rather than do all the other confusing stuff with the RCA's and outputs I still don't understand, then I'll do it. Might even make a few bucks off the 7200...he he he.

Problem though, how much do I have to modify it? I don't wanna have to spend a couple extra hundred bucks to have a guy make me a custom thing to hold it, but if its not that big of a deal then I'll mess with it.

Lemme know what you think.
~Mike

Default Haha, your ticket's in the mail!

Ok, so that explains most of it. The 800a2 amp says 60 amp, and the 600a4 says 50amp. So your saying to start with a 60 and then drop it down until it blows? I can do that.

I posted below about the head unit catastrophe. Even when you explain it it still looks like another language. HPF what!? Haha. If it will be easier to just buy another head unit then fine, I'll take the easy way out. Just I don't know if I can fit it in....

What were you planning on doing about the engine noise? Could you run the power along with the RCA's down the middle, or will that make it worse?

As for sitting back with cold ones, haha, not a bad idea, as long as you fly down. How about a nice vacation to sunny FL Mark? Weather is nice.... Actually I was just up at Buffalo, NY last week. But if you live on the NY/CT border thats still not too close. And then you could help me with the box too! Haha, too bad you don't live close by.

Alright thx again. Appreciate it.
~Mike
