More A4 CD Changer Trouble

More A4 CD Changer Trouble
I have a '98 A4 with the Delta head unit. I presume that the CD changer is an Alpine. The dealer I bought this used from has put 3 changers in it. The first 2 skipped on not-so-bumpy roads. The current one doesn't play certain CD's well. It may start playing these particular CD's alright, but then it starts to do very consistent and continuous skipping. The strange thing is that if I restart the CD at this point, it'll continue the skipping even if it hadn't done it when I initially started playing it. And sometimes restarting a CD causes it to not read the CD altogether.
So far, I've only found 2 CD's that this happens with, but this is out of the first 6 I put in there, and both these discs worked in other players fine.
Should I ask for a 4th CD player, or am I doomed to get yet another bad unit?
Thanks,
Eric

Not all changers are created equal.
Not to say that your changer isn't screwed up, but just because your discs play well on other players doesn't mean much. I have a high end Denon home CD player that will play just about any CD, no matter how damaged or scratched, not the case for the CD player in my car.

Re: More A4 CD Changer Trouble
Is that the same Delta unit thats in a 97 A4, and if so, is there an aftermarket CD player that will work? Every thread I've seen so far says that only an Audi CD player will work with the (97)Delta head unit.

I'm pretty sure its the same one, and, you're right, every thread I've seen leads me to believe its the only changer that will fully work.

Continous skipping
I agree, but it's kind of strange that I've had no problems with any CD's, and now that I have this new changer, I immediately have about 20% of my CD's skipping. And the thing that's wierd about it to me is the continuous skipping all the way through the CD. Almost like it can't get back on track. Anyone EVER seen this before?

Re: Continous skipping
Hello, I just sold my VW Golf GL and bought a 1997 A4 Quattro. I'd love to get a CD changer but don't know which ones will work with my car...any ideas? Should I just go get one from the dealer ($475.00 installed for a 6 disc).
Also, this car is like new, only 14000 miles on it...my only concern is that it is an automatic...but it the woman who sold it to me hardly drove it, had to sell it, and it was too good a deal to walk away from...will this 1.8T Auto be as much fun as my 2000Golf?
