Default Moving the Sub around the trunk of a B5 S4. (JL 500/1 & JL 12w3) Looking for some input.

So... I got a used custom Sub Box.

Sits against the back seat, passenger side, and side fires the woofer.

I'm pretty disapointed with the sound compared to my old box which up fires the woofer in the center of the trunk.

My testing: Listen to it planted in place. Sound bad. Take a corner hard enough to knock the enclosure over, and WOW! bass sounds a TON better.

I really like the design of this new box, that's why I took a chance on it. but is the passenger side front area of the trunk just that dead of a space?

Any thoughts?

Default A good read inside...

You're getting cancellation. At the very least, fire it backwards, but read this first:<ul><li><a href="http://www.teamrocs.com/technical/pages/aiming.htm">cleek</a></li></ul>

So in my Avant I plan on pointing the sub towards the rear and angled upwards.A good strategy?

Default Generally, the farther back you can get the driver, the better. If you're indicating that you're

going to have the sub directly behind the rear seat, I'd point the sub straight back, not up.

Having the sub at the very rear of the car pointing forward would be ideal because reflected and non-reflected sound would reinforce each other. In your case, placing the sub somewhere in the middle of the car will cause some cancellation. Pointing the sub rearward will help to minimize some of that.

Default That will work. If you notice, there is less difference in a hatch back type car...

like the avant is. Basically the whole interrior is the reverb chamber, rather than just the trunk.

I built a cabinet that has the speaker angled up maybe 30 degrees or so. 8" Image Dynamics.
