Default My new modest system (a bit long)

After much debate and several hours searching the audio archives, I decided on the following for my MY00 A4. For the record, my budget was $1000 (total cost including installation and 3 year warranty was $1002). My goal is not have a loud booming system, but something better than the crappy stock setup.

Kept factory non-Bose unit with CD changer
Front Speakers: Boston Acoustic Pro Series 5.25" Component System
Rear Speakers: Boston Acoustic Rally Series 6.5" two-ways
Amp: Alpine MRP-F306

I had originally thought about keeping the stock speakers and installing a 5 way amp and subwoofer. However, comments concerning the tightness of the MY00 truck changed my mind.

The Alpine amp concerns me a bit but I can easily upgrade in the future. I could also upgrade to a 5-way amp and subwoofer if I choose to do so.

Thanks to everyone's comments on this forum in helping me make this decision. The system will be installed next week. If anyone is interested, I will post comments on my impression.

I'm looking to do the same thing. Where did you get the components? My installer quoted $200. not including components, etc. How powerful is the Alpine MRP-F306?

Default I wouldn't worry about the Alpine amp...

I've got the MVF-T303 powering the BA Pro 5.5s in my front doors AND the JL Stealthbox. I suppose it could be louder, but that wasn't my concern. I think it's very clear and provides adequate power for a modest setup.

Good luck,

Default Re: Components from Sound Track in Denver

I did the whole thing (components, install, etc.) at Sound Track in Denver (regional Circuit City type of store). I don't have the receipt ($1000 total) with me but backing out the rough costs of the components

Front Speakers: $410
Rear Speakers: $140
Amp: $170
Ext. Warranty $100

Leaves $180 for installation and taxes. I know the charge for the amp installation alone is about $70. I asked the installer how much time it would take and he indicated a full day.

Hope this helps.

Default Good choice on the Bostons

I have had Boston Pros in my last 2 cars and love them. I am currently trying to figure out how to get 6.53s into the front of an Avant.

A solid 50w/ch should be excelent for 5.5s, but the more you give them the better. I am currently running about 100w/ch into my 5.4s.
