Default Are Nakamichi systems good ? (more, semi-long)

I was wondering what was the best in dash cd system. I want the best sound quality, looks of the face plate need not be the most handsome but must be usable. I heard good things about the Alpines. I recently test drove a 1999 Lexus Es300 with the Nakamichi system. I was very good and in a recent Car & Driver test it rated the Nakamichi one of the best. However, I have heard and read postings about it being not very reliable. Has this changed? Are the speakers good. I am thinking about trying to get the same system as a Lexus 1999 with the 4 full range speakers in the doors and tweeter on the front pillars and the subwoofer in rear on the "shelf". Is it feasible ? Does anyone have a similiar configured system with different manufactures?

any and all insights would help!

nak stuff is nak stuff...it's sort of like jaguars used to be whereas you had to buy two so that you'd have one to drive while the other was in the shop. as for speakers, i would recommend Boston Accoustics, a/d/s, Dynaudio, MB Quart or JL Audio. it would also help to know what kind of vehicle you will be using.

Default Nak makes some of the best OEM equipment.

If you haven't heard the Nak Premium system in the Lexus LS 400, go check one out. Far and away the best OEM system available. Great imaging and placement across the spectrum. It gives you insight into the products that they design.

Default Thanks

I appreciate all the opinions. I guess after doing some research that I am going to invest in a Eclipse system. I kind of like the nav system with the 5.8" display. However it is really expensive, but the relibity is good (as i have read). I am not sure what am going to do with the speakers yet, I might get mb quarts but I am looking into the eclipse speakers, amps and changer.

Thanks,
Tom

If you look in the original post, the question was asking about sound quality
