Need advice on installing aftermarket speakers/amp using Symphony Headunit!!
I am going to help a friend install a 5 channel amp and four speakers in his my2k A4 w/ a symphony headunit. My plan is as follows...
Tap the front speaker wires in the stock kick panels. Cut and attach speaker wire to the end connected to the headunit and run it back to a line level converter. Run the line level into the amp and run powered speaker line back up to the stock kicks. Connect the powered wire to the other side of the stock speaker wiring (the side connected to the speakers). Then, attach the stock speaker wire in the doors to the new crossovers and connect the crossover appropriatley.
Attach the stock rear speaker wires directly to a line level and attach the line level to the amp. Then run new wire to the rear speakers.
- What I need to know is first off will this work?
- Will the sound quality be decent even after cutting up and using the stock wiring a bit?
- Will I be able to tap into the front speaker wire in the kick panels (this saves me the trouble of routing new wire into the doors)? Will I be able to identify them easily by color or labeling?
- Which of the huge bundle of rear speaker wires do I use? Each speaker has 3+ wires running into it (I'm assuming because they are self amped.)
Thanks in advance for all of your help... any other installation advice would be greatly appreciated.
99 1.8TQMSX K04 Santorin

There is a much better way to do this. On the back of the unit there are line-level outputs just waiting for you. If you want the details, send me an email, and I can tell you how to do it. I installed a V12 Alpine 5 channel amp in my car, and it sounds great! I can give all the gory details, if you like.

Are you using the Blaupunkt Adapter?
If so, do you know the model number of the adapter? I recently found a couple for about a dollar a piece. Where did you mount the amp?
Christopher Ryan

Response to Dan AND Steve...
First of all, Steve, *I* would love all those "gory" details. I am planning to do a similar type of installation this weekend, assuming that all the parts arrive in time.
Dan, for all the work you are talking about doing, and running cables forwards and backwards, you are definitely better off using line-level signals from the headunit to the amp, and running new speakers.
The amount of cable is not your issue. The issue is that speaker-line-level converter. For all the work you are planning to do, you are compromising your sound quality by using this device.
I ordered the Blaupunkt adapter from Crutchfield.
Part # 0232NDPRE. It's only $5 plus $3.95 shipping. It plugs into the 8 pin harness in the headunit, and gives you two sets of RCA outputs.
I know it will work with the Concert headunits proir to 1999. I do not know how it will work with the Symphony headunits. Audi might have changed the wiring harness.
Good luck,
Peter
