Default Need help with a diagnosis: on some songs, vocals are difficult to hear (more)

Over the last month, I've completely redone my stereo. Here is the deal:

Stock bose HU

Pre outs tapped at the bose amp to a jbl cs60.4.

system rewired to bypass bose amp completely.

jbl amp powers everything.

bandpass box with 2 8" woofers

rear door speakers disconnected

front kickpanel speakers replaced with jbl 5.25"

tweeters unchanged

When wiring the front speakers to the amp, I used the oem harness so that the tweeters are used.

Problem is, on some songs, the vocals sound distant and quiet. Especially on U2's Achtung Baby album.

On others, no noticeable fall off.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this, or compensate for it?

Thanks,

Default the only easy thing would be to reverse the wiring to one jbl 5.25

if it were a phase reversal it would show up. i haven't taken the time to calculate whether this could actually happen in your car but all other fixes are way more complicated and expensive. good luck, or, you could get a new favorite album

Default Get some proper front components with a decent crossover - stock tweeters are made by Nokia

and just use an inline capacitor to filter the high frequencies. There is no point upgrading the front speakers and leaving the stock tweeters in, you might as well not have bothered.

Default Tweeters are next on the list. I'm having trouble finding ones that might fit and I

wanted to get my interior put back together.

Swapping out tweeters at this point should take about 15 minutes.

Thanks,

Default Any 1" tweeter will fit, so pretty much all of them. You really would be better

getting proper components that are matched. Are the JBL's you have co-axial?
If so then disconnect the tweeter on them as at the moment they'll be stealing power from the proper tweeters.

Default They are 2 way. i believe the problem is the impedance of the tweeters.

The jbls are 2 ohm, and I'm not convinced the tweeters are. Some on the b5 forum have run tests and they indicate they might be closer to 4 ohm.

Guitars and drums sound righteous, just on some songs, the vocals are way too quiet.

I need to get a true 2 ohm tweeter, I believe.

And, the reason I got them was a guy local to me hear is a rep so I basically got them brand new for hardly any $.

Thanks,

Default You need to disconnect the JBL tweets, impedance of tweeters is irrelevant, stock units aren't Bose

The Bose upgrade uses the same Nokia tweeters as non-Bose.
Running tweeters on the JBL's firing into your shins and the stock tweeters together will sound dreadful as the signal will be shared.

Default So I just need to disconnect the jbl tweeters, then. Thanks. Electronics are

not my specialty, as I have deftly demonstrated.

Thanks for your advice and info.

Default crossovers between the 2 speakers are probably not matched correctly, leaving a gap in freq response

replacing the tweeter may not help if its set to not play those missing frequencies

Default

Yes as an interim solution, still highly recommend proper matched components
