I am working on upgrading from Symphony I+CD Changer to Symphony II+Sat in my '01 B5A4. First, thanks to everyone doing RNS upgrades for making the SymII's more available! And big thanks to Teddy, Lee, Matt and everyone else for the great info you have posted. It really helps.

I could use some help with faceplate sizes for the Symphony II. I'm fairly certain there is not a direct fit back to a B5A4/S4. And obviously, the B6A4 faceplates are both narrower and taller than B5. And it looks like the C5A6 folks have a fairly close fit with the exception of the bottom edge. (same story w/ RNS unit frames too).

In my search for a fit, I realized that the 4 key slot positions are the same across all units: 178mm wide x 109mm high to the outer edge of slots. I have taken dimensions on my Symphony I (8D0 rev A) and a SymphonyII (8E0 rev H w/ SAT).

Could somebody with a (edit)C5A6 go measure their SymphonyII (4B0 rev N or ?) and post? The dimensions I need are in yellow below.

Also, has anyone determined which at which revision the radios included the SAT button? I know they started about 2003.5 to 2004, but certainly it must be tied to a revision change. I know the 8E0 H does, and 4B0 N does, but how far back did they start. I'm just curious at this point, but it would be a nice piece of reference info. See my questions below:

ted: I assume you have a B5 A4/S4....so yes..the C5 A6 would be the closest fit for you. However, you can always purchase B5 custom faceplate from autotoys.com etc...if you wanted to go that route. It would require some serious dremel work.

ted: Do you mean C5 A6 or C6 A6? Big difference between the two...when speaking of stereo headunits. Again, you can get a faceplate for a C5 A6 or better yet...the B5. Just plan on doing some very creative dremel work. See link...or do a google search.

Ted: For the B6 and C5, 2004 seems to be the year. I don't believe there was a mid year upgrade like a 2003.5 model refresh.

--Yes you are correct, and my dimension request is for the C5A6 (like yours).
--the question still remains "how close?" hopefully someone can pull out a ruler and take a few measurements for us...just to make it official. just sizing up my options...

--hey, I'm always damn serious when I breakout the dremel near my Audi...

--I was curious about the year cutover because there was an eBay listing last week for a 4B0 035 195 N (with the Sat button) from what was listed as a 2003.5 RS6-- so maybe there were a few pre MY2004?
