Default need help from you stereo experts

i'll be getting my stereo setup in my a4 taken out and i'm going to keep the wires and amps. i'm plan on selling the other items to upgrade my stereo in my coupe. i currently have 2 10" kicker l7 (bought them in 04) in a custom ported box. i love how they sound but i'm not going to put them in the coupe because i dont want to add a ton of weight.

my question is that i'm looking for 2 8" or 2 10" subwoofer that has about the same rms watt as my 2 10" kicker l7 because i want to use the memphis amp that is currently running on the l7's. i really dont have much money to try and sell the memphis and find a amp that i would need to use for my coupe. plus i want to avoid having to use a huge/heavy box for the coupe. also saving space is a issue because when i'm traveling i carry a full size spare in the back hatch area. please help!

Default Are you saying that your Memphis puts out more power than a typical 8" or 10" is rated for?

If that's the case, just keep the amp and get whatever sub you want. More power is always better. Even if you're running more power than the sub is rated for, you can still run them with no problems. You just need to set your gains and bass levels correctly to ensure you're not overdriving the speaker. I've run subs rated for 125 watts with more than 300 watts and had no problems. The only time it would object is when I would play it very, very loud. Sometimes it would cause the speaker to reach the end of it's suspension but it was never permanently damaged. You know right away because you'll hear a loud pop. This was a very high volumes though not what you would normally listen to in the car.

I'm not sure what the RMS concern is either... but if space is tight, use 1 10", and make it good..

Default Don't concern yourself with the actual number or measurement.

As long as you don't hear distortion you'll be fine.
