Need some help here. Re. Ipod/Blitzsafe line levels....(really long)

I got my iPod installed (see link) with the Blitzsafe adapter and it works "ok" but it just dont sound very good.
What I mean is, the Blitzsafe adapter does not seem to like a loud signal. I need to keep the iPod volume set about half way or else I hear distortion. Problem is, compared to the other two sources (FM, in dash CD) I cant really get much volume out of the system now.
Im using aftermarket amps so I can easily turn up the gains on them to compensate but this brings two more problems.
A- By turning up the gains on the amp, system wide everything is louder including any noise I have and
B- I like to set my system so that at just below max volume (say like 28 out of 30) on the ****, you are just starting to hear clipping. If I turn up the gains to compensate for the iPod/Blitzsafe lower volume level I can now clip the system at about 65-75% volume on a CD. Not good IMHO, way to easy for a valet or my wife to overdrive the system and break something![Frown](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
What can I do here? I was thinking some sort of line driver just for the Blitzsafe but I was thinking all a line driver would do is increase the volume that goes into the Blitzsafe. Aint that the same as just turning up the volume on the iPod?
The only way it might work is if I hack a line driver between the Blitzsafe adapter and the H/U. Would that work???
After all, all the Blitzsafe adapter does is trick the H/U into thinking a CDC is connected and then has a "pass-through" for the audio line level signal. Or could it be that the H/U itself cant handle it?

My ipod install.

In this diagram, I would think AF-R, AF-L, and S-GND are the audio right, left, and ground, respectively. Has anyone tinkered with these?
So, if the Blitzsafe does just pass the audio straight through, then the problem would seem to lie in the HU or iPod. I can tell you that I have hooked up my Neo Car Jukebox to my Symphony II via the Blitzsafe adapter and have no problems with the Neo set to full output (though I do not know the voltage level at full output). And overall system volume through the Blitzsafe is on par with radio/CD.

It's clear that the audio signal does in fact go through the box and not just "pass thru" directly to the h/u like one would think. but to be honest, I have not cracked open the blitzsafe to really study it carefully.
I was thinking that I might try to hack a set of female RCA leads after the blitzsafe box just before it goes into the h/u to see if that helps.
This way I can be %100 sure of just a "pas-through" set up. If i hook my iPod up to my home stereo (which is mid-high end, over $3000) the iPod sounds pretty darn good (for 320kb MP3) so I dont think it should sound as bad as it does in my car.

the Blitzsafe adapter simply provides the correct protocol to open the 'mode' Switch on the H/u to allow the aux Input to open, the AF-R, AF-L, and S-GND.
You can plug the BlitzSafe adapter in at the CD changer cable, and cut into these wires at the H/U, and wire in a 3-cond. Stereo plug right behind the H/U.
I have done this on my TT.
cut these wires, splice your 3-cond stereo plug in here
