Default New audio system? Please anyone who as done that need your input! :)

First off it is a 2001 Audi S4 with bose and RNS-E retrofitted.

I am looking to upgrade the audio system in my car while it is apart, I don't want to go ape **** and I don't want any crazy bass... what I do want:

First off this is going with a RNS-E so it has to work with it.

6 New speakers, very high quality with better mids/highs/lows than stock

1 or 2 AMPs, lightweight if possible, nice clean power, maybe 70w RMS at most.

Stock Mounting Locations are a MUST

So here is what I am thinking.

Delete stock amp and speakers all together. Get signal from RNS-E (how do I do that?) and put a nice AMP in the location of the stock amp.

4x65RMS would be nice.

Then put components in the front (5.25 with 1.75" tweeters??) no clue about what to put up there.

New Components or coaxial speakers in the rear (6.5" with built in tweeters?) No clue again

New mid/subs in the rear deck (image dynamics 6.5" woofers?) No clue here again.

I need to know what to do, what mounting brackets I need, and how to make it as clean as possible. My entire interior is out of the car, all seats, carpet, door cards, etc, so now is the time.

What have you guys done?

So basically looking to replace all 6 speakers, new amps, and increase SQ while adding a little more bass, but nothign crazy.

Ideas please. I have STFA and I can't find anything consistant or anything that I want to do, especially with RNS-E

Thanks!

Default First off...

...Contact teddybgame. He can make an RNS-E harness that gives you RCA out. The RNS-E needs to be in Bose mode for an aftermarket amp.

Stop calling subs crazy. I am a 41 year old who never listens to rap or hip-hop, rarely listens to electronic dance any more - mostly acoustic and singer-songwriters. I've done systems with 6x9 subs - the best I could find - and had problems with playing the Eagles at summer-window-down-on-the-freeway volumes on 50wpc. The B5 has small speakers up front and if you want drums to sound like drums, a sub would be very helpful.

Those "6.5 subs" are rarely really subs and are rarely subs in freeair. But... I know the Hertz HV165L woofer fits the square hole in the B5. I wouldn't call it a sub, though.

Personally, I'd leave out the rear door speakers as being useless from a sound-quality POV. They only help you in playing loud, not sounding good. I'd leave them out and replace the front doors and get a sub, personally. The B5 with new front components, a 10" sub in the rear, and a 4-channel amp driving everything, can sound way good.

It is helpful if you suggest a price range. For instance, I would, in that car, use a Zapco DC1000 at one end of the price range, and some lower-cost amp at the other end. (BTW, some amps don't like Audi preouts and have objectionable turnon/off thump).

Default Teddy is helping me along.

I want components up front and am now completely ready to ditch the rear speakers all together.

I also want to ditch the rear deck speakers and add a sub... 10" is fine as long as it fits in the deck somehow... (cutting?)

Who can do this kind of cutting in so cal? I am pretty sure I can run the wiring, possibly do the cutting myself too.

My price range is about $1000 for the whole thing... that would be 1 amp 1 set of componenets and 1 sub.... I can spend extra on the wiring/fabrication to get the sub to fit.

What hardware would you reccomend for $1000 range? I already have the RNS-E.

Thanks!

Default I don't recommend cutting a 10" into the rear deck...

...what I recommend is fiberglassing a 10" into the driver's corner of the trunk, behind the bass-transparent door, in place of the bracketry.

The 10" needs to be fairly shallow and like a volume of around .7 cf or less.

Also, I suggest slowing down a bit on system design an learning a bit more on the acoustics side, maybe from bcae1.com (that's a numeral one, not an L).

On the budget you're on, you don't want to muck about with infinite baffle subs cut into a rear deck.
