Default New or Old Technology? Advise please.

this is my first time on this site and I would appreciate any advice you may have.
I want to upgrade my CD player (Marantz cc-65) and get a CD-R. I run my marantz through an outboard D/A converter (Theta Cobalt 307)and have loved to sound but realize that the newer technology for cd palyers is far above my 5 year old system. I was told to listen to the Denon CD-R 1500. After listening to it, the bottom end of the sound seems weak. Is this just because I've been listening to an older system for so long or could the Maranz/Cobalt combo be better? Should I keep the older or let my ears adjust to the new?
Thanks. Photoflow
