Default Newbe Help.. Speaker location questions and amp selection.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/6784/s4_inprogress_2.jpg"></center><p>
Installing some speakers and a 4ch amp in the near future.

Looking for the optimal location to install the speakers.

The fronts are going to be components and the rears are going to be coax's

the fronts are going in the front door locations.
the rears are either going in the rear deck or the rear door locations.

Where does the forum suggest.

also. where do you recomend installing a 4 ch amp?

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/6784/batterywhere.jpg">\

what amp do you recomend?

i was thinking Infinity 4 chn amp with infinity speakers?

or anything in the price range.

I ran 2 gua for the rear mounted battery ( deleted in front )

theres 12 awg to the front doors,

and 4 chn rca's going to the rear.

btw..

thats all there for the audio department.
4 speakers 1 amp and a rse nav.

no sub.. no extra weight

Default I'd say get some nice 5 1/4" separates, maybe the...

Boston SL50's up front, or Z5 -- I haven't kept up... whatever their ProSeries line is these days... that'll give you some real clean mids and highs.

get some bassy (but clean!) 6's (Boston RM6 is nice, don't know if they still make 'em though) for the rear deck since you're not going with a sub, and cross them over so that you don't get too much treble from them. Full-range from behind you screws up the imaging. (you want to keep the sound stage in front of you)

Or, you could fab some 8's to drop in there, but that's a lot of work.

Popular amp mounting position is upside down underneath the rear deck lid. Some people have had problems with overheating, but if you get a well-ventilated amp, you should be okay.

I prefer Alpine V12 amps; I'm not a big Infinity fan honestly. JL 300/4 is good too -- real powerful and pretty clean.

I just finished my install yesterday... well, almost finished it. Have fun!

Default 2nd the JL 300/4

I run the 300/4 with MB Quart 5.25 separates up front and 6.5 coaxials, with the stock Symphony HU. I also have a JL 10" sub which is powered by the JL 250/1. I think it sounds really good. The Quarts are a little bright, but I find in a car you tend to lose the high end due to wind and road noise.

BTW the amps are mounted to the back of the rear seat. I would not mount any amp upside down. If you are going to mount it under the rear deck build a shelf. Someone on here made one with mdf and really long bolts.

Default Good call.

I would never mount them upside-down either... a nice little amp rack up there wouldn't hurt

Default They're decent. Depending on which series.

Infinity's have always sounded thin to me (don't seem to have enough mid to lower base). I think you can find better speakers for the money. As Twentyvalve said, Boston Acoustics are very good speakers and you should give them a listen.

You may have heard this already but, the best advice would be to audition several speakers with music you bring and are familiar with. Also, listen to them with amps you are considering.

Default Asbolutely the best way to buy speakers...

it used to be so frustrating when people would come to buy audio equip. and not bring their own music, then complain that I didn't have material that suited their needs. pssh.

no more retail for me

Default if money is no object....

DLS iridium components up front, custom mounted in kickpanels, and then if you're going to be mounting speakers on the rear shelf anyway, honestly, rather than getting coaxes, get a single open-air 10" sub (DLS OA10, just a suggestion) and custom fab a support for it (basically, a piece of fiberboard w/ appropriate hole mounted below parcel shelf - it won't weigh any significant amount more than 2 coax's). you could also get a pair of JL 6W0's and just mount those in the factory locations. For the amp, I'd say get a JL 300/4 or 450/4 or maybe an Alpine 4 channel (if you get the sub, just bridge the rear 2 channels) and mount it on the seat back (easy to make it look clean there and no extra weight)
