I recently installed a new headunit and now I dont get any AM reception. My FM reception comes in great however. I have a 97 A4 2.8 Quattro. Are there two seperate antennae? Thanks for the help!

Because you are not getting AM reception, I'll assume you (or your installer) just plugged the antenna into the radio without using the right adaptor.

Your problem is a common one that a lot of people with aftermarket radio's have experienced.... including myself. Here's how I fixed it...


Go to your local stereo shop and ask for a VW/AUDI powered antenna adaptor. It will look like an aluminum cylindar about 6" long and 1/2" diameter. It will have a female antenna jack on one end, and a short length of cable with a male antenna plug on the opposite end. Also coming out of one side there will be a power lead wire. The thing should cost around $10 bucks or so.

All you have to do is plug the antenna wire from the car into the female end, then plug the male end into your new radio antenna jack. Then hook the power lead wire up to the "power ant" wire coming off the new radio and you should be set.
