Default No. VA B6 S4 audio noob looking for sub/amp guidance...

I am looking to get more bass in the S4... I have an old 10" kicker in an enclosure and a 150 watt MTX amp that was installed in my previous car, an Eagle Talon (hatchback), but my fear was that it wouldn't be sufficient from within the trunk. Obviously my two choices are get my current setup installed in the S4 or buy something new. To fully research all my options, I decided I would check around to see what a couple of the local installers recommended.

Well both of them recommended a single 12" (JL or Alpine Type-S) and a 300W (Xtant) or 500W (JL) mono amp. All well and good except that the prices they were quoting were at least $1200 and as high as $1600. Is this what I should expect to pay? This sounded quite high to me... I know you probably get this question quite often, but what would you guys recommend? I tend to listen to music like Crystal Method, Oakenfold, and the like.

Thanks in advance.

Get an Alpine V12 amp (300wrms) off ebay for about $100, MRV-T505, T707 or similar.
They're rock solid and go on forever.
There's no point buying a new amp.
Then buy a JL Audio 10" with enclosure (or cheaper Alpine) for about $500 ($300 for Alpine).
Sorted.

That is a bandass box, and a mid level Alpine, I would steer you away from that.

I am also in NOVA, and would be glad to help out anytime. I love meeting new peeps and doing installs

If you are looking for really heavy bass, I would recommend a Resonant Engineering XXX 12 or 10 (www.reaudio.com or forums.sounddomain.com). You can get the sub for around $350, a proper box for about $150, then pick up a good 1500w rms amp for around $300. So, for $800 you can have a system that you can compete with Tell ya what though, you'd better like it hard, cause it is

I always recommend to people to check the net, there are quite a few manufacturers that make custom hand built subs for half or even a quarter of the price of a new JL, and they are FAR better than JL's. Adire Audio, RE, Elemental Designs, Stryke Audio (look at the MKII, that thing gets LOW), and many more.
