98 A8Q w/ concert (Bose). I have a whining noise in my factory system. It is high pitched almost like alternator noise but it is present even when the engine is off. Strangely is bypasses whatever crossover this system has and comes from the mids and not the tweeters.

Even more odd , to me at least , when I pull the antenna wire 90% of the noise goes away. I had read on either Metra or Scosche that this system has an amplified antenna based on the antenna adapter it would require. I haven't found the power out to antenna amp yet but I will try to short it and see what happens.

System is completely stock.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Not sure if that model has a separate antenna amp hidden in the boot, as newer models have the amp built into the HU.

I'll check it out. The adapter, from what I saw, had a extra wire that feeds +12v if I were to use an aftermarket HU. I presume the amp is remote and is powered via the antenna coax from the HU. I will check it out with my meter.
