Default Noob question, getting a headache searching the archives!

Can I install an aftermarket amp and sub in a 98 A4 w/Bose system? If not can I just add an aftermarket head unit with the amp and sub and not have to replace the speakers? Thanks for the help,

Jeff

Default More details please

You can keep the stock HU, add an external amp and replace the speakers; that's easy. Bose or non-Bose, it doesn't matter. You probably *could* add an amp to the existing Bose system (speakers and all) and add a sub, but why would you want to? I don't think it wouldn't sound very good.

Default So what you are saying is..

if I am going to add an amp and sub, I might as well change out the speakers, too. Or is it recommended that you just change out everything? In your opinion what would you do?

Default You can

Its easy, just tap into the wiring harness in your trunk that plugs into the bose amp. Use a line lever converter, or an amp with line level inputs. Easy as Cherry Pie. And she's easy. That ho.

Default The headunit is reasonably capable, so just swapping out the amp & speakers

will sound pretty good. Dunno about just adding an amp and running the factory speakers. I wouldn't do it. AFAIK Bose speakers are paper pieces of crap just like non-Bose, so I doubt it will sound any better than it does now.
