Depends which lines you're comparing in each brand.

Default I don't like 'em much - I like DLS, Dyne, Morel, and Alpine X type

I hear Hertz is nice too... haven't heard Rainbow enough.

The only Focals I liked were the K2P line. The lower line is very harsh on the highs.

Default All of those have very different sounds from any of the brands he mentioned.

Depends on what type of sound he's going for. DLS Iridiums are nice. Never heard a properly tuned set of Dyns. I didn't like the set of Morels I heard. They sounded too laid back. Never heard X-types.

Maybe one more to listen to would be JL ZR series components.

Default I have the Hex silk, mix feelings

I'm actually going to replace them with a set of DLS speakers from AVINCAR. So, I'll keep you posted on the results!

At lower volumes, when I have the windows rolled up they sound pretty good. Midbass is a little weak. Here's the bad news: in the summer I love driving with the sunroof open which increases the road noise. When I turn up the volume to compensate, the highs get quite harsh and shrill sounding.

So, bottom line, they are decent, but not worth the cost. I love Dynaudio speakers (I've had them in a past car), but wanted to try the DLS's because I didn't have the capital for the Dyn's.
