Default Optins for aftermarket for dead bose radio-little long

Hello. This is my first post, so sorry if I'm asking dumb questions. Last week I was a dumbass and left a soda cup from a fast food place on my dash overnight (I know--first, and last time I do that). It leaked, and coke spilled all over the radio. Now, now the radio can only play tapes, and get marginal AM reception. No FM, and no CD.

I took it to the dealer, and they could not fix it, and it is apparently $800 for a new unit, in addition to which they are back ordered (I have 2000 A4 with Bose unit).

I don't know much about aftermarket options, but can I get something for CD's and Tapes for $800 or less? What are some good options? Will any aftermarket stereo work with the BOSE speakers, or do I have to replace them too?

Or does anyone know if I take the radio out and clean it with Alcohol whether it might magically work again?

Thanxs for the help-
Mugsy

Default first off... did you tell them you spilled coke on it?

if it were me, I would clean the unit up on the outside as best as I could to hide any externally visible evidence of coke spill... then just go to the dealer and tell them it stopped working. Chances are they would just swap it out for another one... as I don't think they would waste time screwing around with opening it up to try to fix it.

Cleaning it with alcohol at this point might not make a difference because in all likelihood, if you tried to turn on the radio with any kind of moisture on the circuit board, then chances are you probably fried some of the circuitry beyond repair.

If you decide to go aftermarket, there are plenty of options out there in both single and double din. However there are some other computer functions in your car that you might lose if you get rid of the stock radio... one of them being the navigation system (if you have that equipped)
