<center><img src="http://www.minidisc.org/panasonic_cqmrx777.gif"></center><p>Well, here's the situation. I have the Bose on my 98 1.8T, so I got the Panasonic 6 disc CD changer. I want to be able to play MD in dash, so I want a MD player up front. The thing is I don't have the money to change the whole setup - in dash and CD changer. So I was checking the web and saw this in-dash CQ MRX777 Panasonic MD. So I guess my question is would this in dash MD work with my existing Bose/Panasonic CD changer? And I haven't heard about Panasonic in the car audio industry, how are they in terms of sound quality and reliability?

Oh yea, I already have a portable MD player, and I don't think getting that specail tape to play MD looks good inside. So I have pretty much eliminated that idea.

For a couple of reasons. It will look absolutely horrible in the dash of an audi. If you don't think that the tape adapter looks good, then you will hate the cosmetics of the Panasonic. Also, the sound quality of the Panasonic is not the best. Look at some other options, you will be much happier.

OK, if I get the Panasonic in dash MD, I'll spend around $300-400, and I can use the stock Bose/Panasonic CD changer I assume.

If I go for another setup (In dash MD + CD changer) of other companies (Sony, Alpine etc) I'll spending at least $1000. So is the sound quality of the Panasonic so bad that I would rather double the spending? Worth it?

I really don't mind the look, actually I think the unit looks pretty cool with the day/nite dual color scheme. The thing is, I checked many websites and I found out that unit costs $750! A lot more than I expected!

So should I just forget about the Panasonic and get a different combo of In dash MD/CD changer? Then I would think that if the unit is $750, the quality can't be that bad right? What other companies should I look into? Sony? Alpine?

JVC make an indash single din MD and CD player. It won't look as good as some of the other products available, but it will look a lot better than the Panasonic, and out perform it by a wide margin. The only problem is you're going to be stuck with a storage tray or some other space filler in your dash, and you won't be able to use the stock changer (which is a pain anyways being in the trunk). The model is the KD-MX3000, right now it's 500 at crutchfield. Just an idea. Hope it helps.
