The simple fact that heat rises....
The amps he has give off heat via the cooling fins on the top of the amp. Therefore, the fins give off heat, heat rises, and is absorbed right back into the amp...causing unnecessary overheating. Plus, some just weren't made to be upside down. Maybe it's something with the electronics.
For good amp placement, the best way to mount is always vertical. So...that leaves you with any place you can mount it vertically...the sides of the trunk...rear of sub box....rear of seats... Also you can mount them falat (fins up) but this doesn't give off heat as efficiently.
~Mike

This car is my daily beater, I have plans to .......
do a competition type install, meaning amp rack and that stuff, but I need my trunk and also I am going to wire everything so I can remove it all for racing, the damn subs and amps give the car alot of extra weight.
2000 S4 Silver/onyx six-speed

in a case such as this....
the heat will mostly dissipate by convection throughout the trunk. it does not (really) matter which way you mount them.
Jonathan Fingold
