I'm looking to upgrade my 2000 A4 speakers (like just about everyone else!) I've got two in mind. For the front doors, I was thinking something on the line of the Polk EX2540 or the Infinity 40.2cs. They only have 4" "woofers," but they sound great and the install shouldn't be all that difficult. Any comments? Should I wait to try to get an MBQuart adapter and go with 5-1/4's or 5-1/2s?

Any comments would be appreciated!

definently 5.25. I have 50.2cs, and they are decent, but nothing to brag about

Always go with the larger drivers, if you can. 4"s are capable of midrange, but not midbass.
