Default Power for my amp

2000 A4 1.8T - I've got a 10" sub powered by a small 100W RMS amp with an 8 gauge power wire. I'm trying to figure out a place to tap some power. Are there any places in the dash? Or any places I can pass through the firewall? Thanks

Default

Buy a multimeter to find a good power source.

Default Prise up the top of the ECU cover, it drops straight into the footwell.

There's even a convenient spare rubber grommet you can use to enter the ECU cover.
BTW 100wrms is not enough to power any sub, you could end up destroying the sub with so little power.

Default Some subs are only rated to handle >200W. In those cases, 100W should be fine.

Now if he's looking for ground pounding bass, then 100W RMS and a 150W rated sub is not going to get the job done. But for everyday listening at anything but deafening levels, 100W can work with the right sub.

...easier passthrough...but make sure you seal it up good with some silicone.

Default More subs are destroyed by too little power flatlining than too much power.

If the sub is only rated at 200wrms then you should use 200wrms

Default Oh i totally agree!! I think i read your post wrong. Yes...you should NOT under power subs.

I thought you were indicating some subs are only meant to handle UP TO 200w. So that would have made your symbol wrong....but...basically...im an idiot.

And i agree...id actually rather see you deliver a few EXTRTA watts and turn the gain down over underpowering subs.

Default I don't disagree that more is better.

But I wouldn't make a blanket statement like 100W is too little to run any sub. People have won competitions with 100W powered subs. It all depends on the application.

OK Mr Pedantic, "Generally 100w is too little"

Default Under the dash, left hand side, there are power distribution blocks...

as well as a single grounding point you can use as well (you'll se lots of brown wires connected there).
