Sounds like you trimmed down the stock mounting posts, maybe part of the interior hump of the door and refitted some new mounting posts? Could you give some details? Like materials used, etc.

If there is a significant gap, that's where your midbass is going. 5 1/4" Bostons should have plenty of midbass assuming all else is proper (good head unit and amp). Try adding some silicone sealant to all portions that are gapping.

I have Boston Pros, and although depth didn't seem to be a problem, I didn't want to mess around on the inside of my doors. It seemed like I could either trim door panel plastic or door frame metal, and either one made me nervous. I had some sweet 1/4" baffles made out of wood (DIY job), but didn't want to start cutting without knowing ahead of time that it would work. Now, the car is going in tomorrow to have the kicks finished up, which should deliver better imaging anyway.
