A Question to ponder?
What is the best sounding speaker (I know this is subjective) for a good price. I could spend say $100+- on a coax pair if Infinity Kappas or about $500 on some Dynaudio or Morel speakers. What I want is a happy medium. Speakers that are very musical as well as cost effective. My personal preference leans toward textile or silk dome tweeters and precise/fast midrange. I have built several pairs of home stereo speakers with Dynaudio, Morel, and vifa drivers, but this car audio thing is pretty new to me.
Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Re: Yea, sorry. I will be amplifing with two amps with approx 50-75 watts @ 4ohm. (More)
I want to keep the stock head for looks and theft reasons. I may add a eq/crossover after the stock head unit depending on my budget and the sound quality without one.
Thanks

I spent $175. Wish I spent more.
Actually, I spent $175 for infinty kappas 50.cs up front (5.25" components). I also spent $189 on a set of 60.1cs (6.5" components). I really wish I had spent $79 bucks on some cheaper coaxials for the rear, and spent 300+ on the front. I guess I needed to learn by experience, but everything people tell you about the front stage being most important is true. I even had people sit in the back, and they couldn't tell the difference with or without the rear 6.5's (I also have one infinity perfect 12 in the trunk). I'd go with a top of the line component set for the front, and forget about the rears. Another thing is that my amp is 50x4, so I don't have a good way to get more power up front without ditching the rears and bridging the amp. Then, I think 150 watts might be too much, unless you have some serious midrange drivers in there.

Dave's right. Do it once, and do it right. Consider a/d/s/ 345is,
Diamond Hex, or Boston Pro. The best advice is listen to as many as you can with amplification similar to what you'll be providing. I'm not suggesting MB Quart because you requested soft dome tweeters.
Also, if you have an A4 you absolutely MUST use the MB Quart adapters or have mounting rings fabricated for you to step up to 5.25" drivers in your doors. 4"s are not adequate for midbass--you'll be disappointed going with them (5.25"s aren't that great either, but they're an improvement).

I wondered the same and wound up with CDT seperates in front mids in rear deck... love em!
I think they sound better than all of the more expensive speakers I listened to. They sound awesome. 5.25" + 1" silk tweets up front and 6.5" mids in the rear. You won't find anyone that listens to them and says they sound bad, I tried! They definately deserve a listen. And for all six speakers I spent well under $500! The only down side is if you already have the amps you mentioned... you MIGHT want to give them a little more power than that. But I think that goes for any higher end speakers.

CDT Audio's homepage
