Default Question regarding OEM cd changer and 13 pin data cable

I just bought a new A4 over the weekend and have been looking into installing a CD changer. I looked at my cable and 3 of the pins are missing, making it 10 pins instead of 13. The layout looks like this:

....
. .
...
.

instead of:

....
....
....
.

Has anyone ever heard of this? If I buy an adapter, will it still work without these 3 pins? The car was straight off the boat - had less than a mile on it when I took the test drive, so I'm wondering if this is something they are starting to do with all Audis, or if it is just mine.

Any information or advice any of you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

And did you install a changer using the adapter? It appears as though the adapter will fit because the pins that are there are configured in the same pattern. I'm just wondering if it will work with those pins missing. If you or anyone else has installed a cd changer with the adapter with these pins missing, the I'll go ahead and order it. I just don't want to buy it and then come to find out it won't work. If anyone has done this, and it has or hasn't worked, please let me know. Thanks.

No, I didn't actually install a changer.

I'm attempting the same install with the same issues (10 pin cable) in my 98 a6- The changer works, but i'm only getting audio out of the left side speakers. That explains what those extra pins are for!
Now to find a Blitzsafe 10 pin adapter...
