Default Quick Question

I tapped off a 30 amp fuse for my 180 watt amp for my subwoofer. I have had the car like this for about 4 months now. I am wondering if it is hurting the alternator or something? Should i take the time to wire to the battery? and if so why?

Default I doubt the alternator is in trouble, but I would urge you to run power wire from the . . .

battery's positive terminal to your amplifier, with an inline fuse or breaker within a foot of the terminal.

Why? Well, amplifiers--especially those providing power for subwoofers--draw quite a bit of current. Your stock wiring (from your battery, through the firewall, and into the fusebox) wasn't designed to provide for the increased load of your amplifier, especially during bass hits.

I've had amplifiers "professionally" installed incorrectly with wire too thin to deliver ample current, and these amps choked (thermal shutdown). The same amps operated without a problem with thicker pipe since they received the power they needed, when they needed it.

That being said, 180 watts is not a monstrous amount of power.

Why not be certain and give your amplifier its own dedicated line? You'll spare your Audi electrical system potential grief, and you'll get the most out of your amplifier.
