Quick question about stereo system HU replacement in my 01 A6...

I'm going to replace my factory HU with a new HU. I have been told that if you have a Bose system the speakers all have Audi factory amps and you'd have to replace all the speakers if you replace the HU.
Now I don't have any Bose emblems on my speakers and do not believe I have a Bose system. (No sub in the back) This means I can just do a normal replacement of the receiver, am I assuming this right?
Questions:
How can tell if it is a none-Bose or Bose system? (By the lack of Bose emblem?)
The none-Bose system speakers are without the built speaker amps, making life easier?
Simple exchange of HU units because I don't have a Bose system?
I can just use the dash kit number 99-9101 and I'm good?

If it's Bose the HU should display Bose when you first turn it on.
The HU's on Bose and non-Bose are the same units, just programmed differently.
You will still have active components even if it is the stock system (the rear speakers are driven by a separate amp. You can get a wiring adapter that will allow an aftermarket HU to plug straight into the Audi loom. However I suuggest wiring up the rears directly to the HU speaker outs, as the Audi amp is only 25w and pretty lo-tech. If you want to fit a sub, again by pass the Audi pre-out wiring as it is unscreened and prone to pick up alternator whine with higher power components. The front speaker harness is standard ISO, but you would need an adapter to give you rear speaker outs as well.
Highly recommend the Alpine 9812rr.
