My battery died and locked my radio out in SAFE mode, I used the procedure outlined in the manual and inputted the code twice, which didn't work, and subsequently realized I had had my radio replaced in '02. So I called the dealer and was given the new code and told to put the key in the "on" position for one hour, which should reset the radio to let me attempt to input the codes again. This didn't work. Any other way you guys know of to reset the radio so I can input the codes again? Or do I have to take it to the dealer?

If the new code doesn't take the 2nd try(3- chances) take it to the dealer. You have to pull the 12 or 13 digit SN off the radio itself, not associated with VIN(in the US at least).
Good luck.
Good luck.

everty time you touch it the safety timer goes back to zero, just leave the car alone, key out or in whatever, then put in the correct code, if it does not vtake the 1st time, call somebody, if you mess up twice, back to waiting.

I had the key in the "on" position (not engine running) w/ radio off, which was my mistake. Key position doesn't matter, just have the radio on by itself for an hour and then you can reinput codes.
