Default Reprograming the radio for OEM XM Install

I have a 2004 A4 and I just purchased the XM module that gets mounted in the trunk area. Everything was pre-wired and was all plug & play. But when I press the "SAT" button on the deck it says "No Sat Radio". The dealer says that the radio needs to be "reprogramed". Is this true? Does anybody know how to do this without me dropping off the car to the Audi dealership for a day.

Default Intersting question! I need to know this myself.

Perhaps there is a new undocumented code out there some where. Check the VAG-COM forums (I'll look there myself).

Default BTW, did your car say . . .

. . . Sirius on the sticker when you bought it? My car did, and I am going under the assumption that the XM module (preferred) uses the same wiring harness.

Hmmm . . . maybe this is why the radio needs to be re-coded. If it's expecting a Sirius module, that could be causing your trouble.

I am trying to track down AudiTechIL, who apparently has done many of these installs. I'll let you know if he says anything interesting.

Good luck to us both.

Default If you put your XM mod in a car wired for Sirius, I have the answer: (updated)

If you don't get anything when you press the 'SAT' button, try this:

There is a pink wire running behind the front passenger kick-board. Pull out the kick-board and look for this wire. It will be plugged into one socket and another socket next to it will not have a wire plugged in. Move the pink wire to the other socket.

It turns out, I didn't have to do this. The XM radio turned on immediately after plugging it in.

Strange. Good luck to you!

Default IT WORKED!!

That did the trick. I plugged the pink harness into the one to the left of it and the XM came alive. Thanks!!! Where did you learn that trick? The dealership by my house didn't even know that info. They told me that they where going to have to call the Audi Hotline to find out how to make it work.

Default It depends on the tech...

...AudiTechIL has experience doing this, but I happened to find a tech at my dealer who knew of this problem.

Good news and enjoy it like I am! :-)
