Default RNS-E FAQ (no answers - please post them)

I'm posting this to a guy working with the RNS-E retrofits to get the dvd-based new navi working in our older navis. I figured I'd share the answers in realtime and perhaps help us all.

What vehicles can even consider this?

What are all the options/components you sell? I'm thinking of the RNS-E itself, the
DVD, wiring harness(es), additional adapters, antennae, bluetooth adapter kit, etc.
Please reference which items I'd need to accomplish the following, or if it is
completely impossible.

1 - AM Radio. I want US frequencies and not EU.
2 - FM Radio - expect normal functionality like stock radio.
3 - XM Radio - want full support as on a 2005 audi a6.
4 - fatbox/cd changer - i want full support for my fatbox (others may want the same for
a cd changer) as with the stock CDC button.
5 - bluetooth ingegration. What's needed to make the system connect to my phone
automagically?
6 - bluetooth - can i dial by voice?
7 - bluetooth - will the radio automatically mute on calls?
8 - bluetooth - will callerid/phonebook/anything show up on the headunit?
9 - general - what can show up on the in-dash display? The items I had with the stock
unit (station ID, freq)? More? Callerid etc with a bluetooth phone?
10 - general - Frankly, my stock 2000 audi a6 symphony II stereo just sounds great.
Will everything sound as good or better with the RNS-E?
11 - general - will the navi programming/bells&whistles be available at speed or will the interface get disabled when the car goes over a certain speed?
12 - can a carpc with monitor out be hooked up to display through the screen? Can the touchscreen be used to send commands back to a PC?

Default bad url? navplus comments

I think that specific url isn't quite right, but in any event I know you are referencing navplus.us. The issue there is that there is SO much data in so many pieces scattered all over the place. There needs to be a simple one-page answer for someone who wants to just know the big question - can I drop some money on this and have a 2005 a6 radio experience? I found navplus.us to be way too obfuscated to collect all the relevant answers.

Default So, you want other people here to gather the data for you instead of spending time to do it yourself

You'll probably find someone willing to do it.

Default Did you even see "Retrofit Basics" link on the first page on NAVplus.us?

Most of your questions is covered over there and the rest are covered within people's posts.

Default no, I want ppl who already have the data to share it in a usable format

My questions alone go a long way towards making a *useful* respository of data. Examples of problems with the site:
excerpt: "1. should I get EU or US
Really plug and play is only the US unit."
problem: the site said the same thing before the firmware revelation came about. Now that EU units are "flashed" to US code is it still accurate? Who knows? I can post there to find out and, ultimately figure it out and horde the info for myself, or we can cut to the chase here.

excerpt: "EU units in US cars
» RADIO - FM (AM doesn't work, XM/Sirius not confirmed yet)" Is that still true? again no update since firmware revelation. XM STILL hasn't been confirmed? I doubt it. Again, even if I do all the digging, everyone else has to dig each time. Let's get the data in one spot. Lastly, the directions are really posted to the guy who is selling these, and it's x-posted to this group so we can all see the answers. He already knows most of them, and having this faq is going to help everyone since he can sell more units and people like me can buy one without being scared away by old data on that web site.

Default You should get your facts right or keep your Symphony

Navplus.us is an excellent source for someone who wants to retrofit OEM components around the RNS-E. People have been and still are spending their personal money and time on adding one piece after the other to the big RNS-E puzzle and there are a lot answers to many of your questions out there.

But you are asking for features even Audi is not offering in the new A3/A4. If you want the A6 MMI features, buy an A6. If you look a little closer you will see that an A6/A8 has a complete different electrical design and can't be compared to the A3/A4/Allroad. Therefore features available today in the A6 won't work with the RNS-E. But as soon as Audi comes up with new features for the RNS-E, I'm sure you will read first on navplus.us that someone is working on a retrofit.

Good luck finding someone who does the work for you...

Default Format would be usable if you'd actually take few minutes to read it.....

First of all, you need to spend a little time on the site before you make any judgement....

...if you would, maybe you would find out answers for your questions. Also just looking at your "excerps" here it's clear to me that you didn't take any effort to use SEARCH or even follow the latest updates on the topics.

Somehow you found info about updating EU units with US software but miraculously you didn't found the rest of the info about radio functionality after update. Very weird.

Back to your "excerpts" and just to prove how lame your accusations are:
<b><i>the site said the same thing before the firmware revelation came about. Now that EU units are "flashed" to US code is it still accurate?</i></b>
It clearly says in post about the update (I assume that you found this one) that you need to update your EU nav unit. Now you need to ask yourself - can you do it? Is it easier to buy US or buy EU and update? Is this so complicated?

<b><i>» RADIO - FM (AM doesn't work, XM/Sirius not confirmed yet)" Is that still true? again no update since firmware revelation.</i></b>
This is discussed in one of the top posts in MULTIMEDIA section. Took me 5 sec to find it.
