Default S4 Head Unit replacement

About to begin my second S4 audio replacement project........1st car was recently totaled from a rear end colision.
1st car utilyzed the Bose head unit and all aftermarket components thereafter.
This car , i am exploring using a high quality aftermarket head unit in lue of the bose unit. Question is: I have been told that by removing the bose head unit.....the lights on the instrument panel (computer /trip etc.) will no longer function. Is this the case? Overides to this? Anyone with knowledge in this area , please accept my thanks in advance

Default The only part that stops working is the top line - i.e. CD Track, radio station - RADIO info...

The rest of that peice of the display still works, i.e. trip computer, temperature guage, idiot lights (little sprinkler for the winshield tank), etc.
