Default set up for ppi 80w x 4 channel amp

just got a ppi pcx-480. i am thinking of just running front 5.25 components @ 2 x 80 and bridging 2 channels to run sub @ 160w. i rarely have rear passengers and when i do i'm not thumping the tunes.

is this the way to go or should i get a separate amp for sub?

Default Re: sound's good to me and ......

i don't have rear speakers ....and if you plan to run back speakers all you need to do is get another amp for the sub...took out rear dash speakers to vent the bass in the cabin...

Default it's more than enough for your entire car...

why wouldn't you just use the front 2 channels to power the entire interior? just put an attenuation circuit on the rears to drop them down a couple of db's. i have a jl 300.4 (75x4) and it is more than enough power and i still am not running the amp to capacity. i still have lots of headroom on the amp. this amp should be more than enough power, you just need to hook it up properly. if you are anywhere near florida give me a call and you can have a listen. my car is set up for sound quality, but the single ten hits really really hard, and the imaging is near perfect.

Default why would he need another amp for the sub?

and why would you remove the rear speakers, especially for venting the subs into the car?

Default Re: it's more than enough for your entire car...

unforunately i live in nyc so i can't hear your system. that's a nice box for your amp & sub. who built it? is the driver pointing forward? all i can see is the port in the rear.

i'm trying to find the right place to store my amp - it's almost 19" long!! i agree that the 1 amp should be plenty for the fronts and the sub. i'd like to try front components only w/a nice sub 1st to see how the imaging sounds. thoughts?

Default Because

a) he doesn't drive from the rear of the car
b) doesn't care about rear seat passengers (maybe he never has any
c) venting subs into the car means more volume in the cabin

Default mount the amp

to the bottom of the rear deck, but mount it right side up, which means you have to suspend the amp on something like a shelf.

Default Re: Because

are you saying i don't need a 2nd amp for sub if i am just running 2 channels for front and bridging 2 for sub. the thought of 160w running sub seems more balanced to front than driving sub at +200w. i am looking for tight clean bass, and not letting the whole neighborhood know when i am playing tunes in my car.

can you recommend a nice 10" sub to run from the 4 ch amp?

Default not a single one of those reasons is valid...

for not having rear speakers. i can partially agree with the venting, but find an alternative. there is this little thing in the audio world called imaging. without it your stereo sounds like nothing more than a ghetto blaster on each door, ie crap. you need those rear speakers a lot more than most of you realise. how engulfed in the sound would you feel at the theater or home theater without the rear speakers? they aren't there to provide sound behind you, but rather to engulf you in it. the final result of a quality install is having no idea where the speakers are placed and instead understanding the imaging field you are in. quit taking out your rear speakers people, and quit running them off of you head. a mere 25 quality amplified watts is a whole lot more than anything that an head unit can provide. the simple head unit itself performs the first leg of the processing, make sure it is doing its just part. and leave some highs and mids behind you, just make sure they are properly attenuated and adjusted.

Default you can run those front 2 channels to ALL your interior speakers...

front and rear, you just need to put a circuit on the rear speakers.
