yes, I know, I've posted on this before ... but I'm actually getting ready to do something
Current thoughts are:
JL Amps, maybe? Eats up a big chunk of the budget
Image Dynamics IDQ 10" sub or JL 10w3v2 sub
The fronts are where I'm really lost - want something I can get locally, because I want to hear them... Been leaning towards some low end focals, mid-high end JL, or something similar.
Any thoughts?
(BTW: Wide range of music preferences. Generally prefer accuracy and quality over volume.)

I also have MB Quarts in the Audi, but they tend to be bright, and can be fatiguing to listen to for long periods of time.
The BAs aren't nearly as bright.

they'll eat up a lot of the budget, but if you're sticking with the factory head unit, which it sounds like you are, you want to add as little distortion to that as possible to get a good result. As for subs, I highly recommend the Image Dynamics...they're affordable and incredibly accurate. Not to mention loud as well, if you feed them right
As for speakers, I'd suggest checking out DLS...its a slightly smaller company (in america at least...they're huge in europe), but their speakers are relatively cheap and sound incredible. A set of DLS ur6 components set me back $300 + install, which is about half of what a comparable set of Focal or Diamond audios would cost
and just a side note, I'm not sure which JL amp you're thinking about to power this, but if you're looking for a 300/4 (if you just do a front stage and an IDQ10, it can definitely power the whole system...its rated VERY conservatively at 75w x4 RMS), I have a brand-new, never opened in the box JL 300/4 that I'd be willing to sell for the right price....email me if you're interested

I'm not keeping the stock HU - I already have a Pioneer Premiere DEH-P860MP installed. It's currently just running the stock paper-coned ****.
Regarding a 300/4 powering everything, how would you set that up? I got the impression that it really only supports either 4 or 2 channels. I was thinking 300/4 for the fronts, either bridged or bi-amped, and a 250/1 for the subs. I know I won't need that much power for the fronts... so if there's a way to run it in a 3ch mode, I could be very happy with that.

my CDA-7995 is awesome, Alpine's head units are among one of the top few. (depend which model of course). great features, gotta love time correction if you have it, makes it sounds that much better.
